English Anime Name: Michelle Kiaoh
Also Known As: Sailor Neptune, Super Sailor Neptune, Princess
Neptune Attacks: Deep Submerge (act 27); Submarine Reflection (act 31); Forms shield with talisman (act 33) Mini-bio:
Warrior of the planet of the sea, Neptune is certainly the most elegant of the Sailor Soldiers. Although she is a water warrior
like Mercury, Neptune is of the sea, and has no ice attacks like her counterpart. Michiru Kiaoh is a pair with Haruka,
and the two are usually seen together. They seem to be very similar in some ways, such as the notoriety and sense of duty.
But, like Haruka and Bunny are drawn to each other, Michiru is also drawn to Darien, seeing the nobility in his eyes. But,
all Darien sees in her eyes is a distant coldness, as if she is drawn away by the mission she knows they must accomplish to
save the planet. However, he may also see her Sailor Soldier powers within her, as he does make note of the gifted violinist
and agrees to take the free tickets to her concert from her. Just as she has her similarities with her love, Haruka, Michiru
also has her differences. Haruka seems to have an air of masculinity, while Michiru is extremely effeminate, she seems to
be very much a woman. Not necessarily in a stereotypical way, but in that she is very elegant and refined. She is usually
seen in flowing skirts and dresses, and her lipstick is noted on a couple of different occasions. Her talisman is a hand mirror,
which she often uses, and seems to suit her femine nature like Haruka's sword suits hers. Mythology/Symbolism: Neptune
was the husband to the goddess of salt water, and was himself the god of oceans. [Just as Sailor Mercury represents fresh
water and can even use ice/snow attacks, Sailor Neptune is salt water, using attacks calling the depths of oceans.] Her
anime dub name, Michelle, is the feminine form of the name Michael, whose name means "who is like God." In the Bible, he is
an archangel, and is considered the patron saint of soldiers. Her original name would translate as something meaning approximately
"Full King of the Ocean," although it would still be seen as a personal and surname by those reading it. Michiru's favorite
stone is her birthstone, aquamarine, which is associated with the planet Neptune. It is a symbol of youth, hope, health and
fidelity, which derives its name from two Latin words that mean "sea" and "water." This gemstone has been thought to hold
the spirit of the sea, and can be even more powerful when immersed in water. It is also believed to be the treasure of the
mermaids. My Thoughts: Neptune is the other of my least favorite Sailor Moon manga characters, along with Uranus.
It seems these two are always a pair, so my feelings of them both run along the same lines. Along with Uranus, she is harsh
and unforgiving to Bunny and the other inner soldiers, thinking them unworthy to share in their mission. But, their mission
is founded only upon their own fears, and although they think it is for the good of their planet and precious princess, they
do not in fact know the whole of it. Although Michiru is gentle where Haruka is impulsive, it is still hard to forgive her
for her abuse of the friendship offered by the inner soldiers. However, she and Haruka are both loyal and uncompromising in
their duty. Though they may have been misguided by their fear, it was still fear for the protection of their princess and
the Earth. Even though they are not my favorites, by no means do I hate Michiru and Haruka
